Secret Songs - shh#ffb6c1

shh#ffb6c1,
the aforementioned compilation for ryan hemsworth's new secret songs label, begins with a blast of manic energy; "my song", by the adorkable pc music artist gfoty, is a madcap cry for respect, detailing how this song is HER song and HER song alone, so you better step off. it's utterly hilarious and a quite suitable prelude to the nine forthcoming songs. "wishes" is just as excellent as when i first heard it, and kero kero bonito's entry, "flamingo" is rife with their signature quirks, like the ridiculous opening couplet "how many shrimps do you have to eat/before you make your skin turn pink?" this song is built around donkey kong 64-style flutes and features the same half english/half japanese singing that broke them into the blog scene. another wonderful tune is et aliae's "baby" with its melancholic vocal snippets, as is kansas native chindamo's "pachirisu", named after the newest pikachu ripoff pokemon, but makes up for this with twinkling synths and toybox percussion. ryan hemsworth intends secret songs to be a showcase for talented, if unknown, producers, and this compilation does a stellar job at bringing an array of great producers to a bigger audience. the compilation is available to download for free right here - do yourself a huge favour and pick it up.
