Maxo - SLAYMIX ~YELLOW~
there's been a sinister influx of nostalgia commodification going on recently since record labels discovered certain kitschy throwback genres and their latent popularity. it's a sad state of affairs when you see said labels jumping onto the synthwave/vaporwave/bubblegum bass bandwagons after they've left their stations, all in the name of maintaining a kung-fu grip on the zeitgeist. however, self-proclaimed "chord slayer" maxo has an approach to nostalgia that feels much more innocuous, and his recent mix for creamcake showcases his video game composition chops, in addition to his joyous appropriation of classic game soundtracks and fixing up canonized pop songs (like amerie's "1 thing"). its exuberance and lust for both gilded older tunes and blisteringly new production means "slaymix ~yellow~" is another great release under his belt that does nostalgia right.
also there's a remix of the death chamber song from sonic adventure 2 in there. just sayin'.
